Bobby Tugbiyele, who spoke in person, gave passionate remarks in which he said he and many hoped the motion would represent a much-needed change. Speaking to the City Council, Tugbiyele said he felt a sense of frustration and hope. The motion was important to him personally and professionally.

“True agents of change understand that addressing issues of diversity, equity and inclusion does not fall on one person or one budgeted position,” Tugbiyele said. “To become a more inclusive and representative workforce, it will take every single person in this room and in the community to speak on and act wherever and however until we become the change we say we want to be.”

Tugbiyele said the community needs to better position itself as a one people want to work in and stay in.
